How the sensitive-words rules work
The Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business Names (Sensitive Words and Expressions) Regulations list words that suggest a connection with government, a regulated profession, a protected status, or that could mislead the public. To use one, you attach written approval from the body named for that word, or evidence that the use is justified, to your incorporation application. Without it, the application is rejected.
The match is on whole words: “Bankside Cafe” is fine, “Bankside Bank” is not. Plurals and obvious variants are treated as the same word. This checker uses the same lookup as the full Companies House check, so a clear result here is the same result you would get in a report. The guide to sensitive words walks through the approval process.
